Fearlessness

"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart."

The concept of love in a warrior is, to the uneducated and narrow minded, backwards. When you think warrior you think things like hard, risky, bad-to-the-bone, and solid. Love isn't a word that pops into most peoples minds when you ask them to describe a warrior.

Ask any real warrior what love is. Every "true" warrior has the ability to love. You can't be a real warrior and not understand love. Love is what binds us to the oath of sacrifice and what makes one so willing to lay down his life for another. Whether it is love for your team members, love for your family, or love for your homeland. Sacrifice is a direct response of love.

1 John 4:18 tells us: "There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

Personally, growing up I let fear get the better of me in a lot of ways. I remember Western Montana and a mountain that I had to climb. I remember the whole way up my legs were weak and shook. When I got to the top I couldn't even open my eyes for a long time because I feared what I would see. In my mind I saw a long way down. But when I opened my eyes I saw a new world and a scene I'll never forget. That was the day I conquered fear.

If you're worried about the long fall you'll never enjoy the phenomenal view.

If you fear death you'll never be the warrior that you were meant to be.

Perfect love drives out all fear.

Learn to love unconditionally and mercifully and you will be fearless.

Introduction

We are all fighters. The question is just what do we choose to fight for. Even those who claim to be pacifist fight for peace. As Christians we have chosen to be followers of Christ and that puts us on God's side in the war on darkness. We live our days out fighting a battle between good and evil. Christians are on the frontlines of this battle day-in and day-out for as long as they choose to follow Christ. Every action or word spoken must be weighed and used carefully. There's no other way to put it... Christian's have to be elite, self-controlled warriors. This fight isn't for the feint of heart.

Chief Tecumseh was a Native American Chief who was born into a world of warfare around the time of the revolutionary war. He wanted to see Native Americans succeed in saving their homeland from the white man. He was a man that stood in the face of a much larger enemy and went out fighting for what he loved. He was also a writer and a poet, as many warriors are. In this blog I'm going to cover one of his writings. It was used in the movie Act of Valor not too long ago as a letter from a man killed in action to his infant son. Here it is.

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and
demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life,
beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a
friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all
people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy
of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only
in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones
to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are
filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep
and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Over the next few months I'm going to cover this in detailed blogs. I'll go into history, battles both physical and spiritual, and scriptures. I'm excited and looking forward to it. I hope you are as well.
